Charlotte Flair Gets Emotional Discussing Her WWE Royal Rumble Return
After being sidelined for over a year due to a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus, Charlotte Flair made a triumphant return at the WWE Royal Rumble, winning the Women's Royal Rumble Match.
Speaking on the WWE Royal Rumble Post-Show, Flair opened up about her comeback and the emotions surrounding her victory.
“I really don’t want to break down,” Flair admitted. “This was the longest I’ve been away from the fans since I started in 2012. I got into this business because of my little brother. When my knee injury happened in December, taking me out of action, I kept thinking, ‘I can’t go out this way.’ That realization made me reflect on how far I’ve come—I was doing this for him.”
“Seeing the fans follow my injury updates throughout the year, sending messages like, ‘We miss you, Charlotte’ and ‘We love you,’ truly meant a lot. As a performer, you sometimes wonder, ‘Do I still have it? What am I coming back for? I’ve already accomplished so much.’ But stepping into that ring tonight and winning the Royal Rumble for the second time reminded me—I’m here to do it all over again. That’s how driven I am.
Funny story—when I made my entrance, I couldn’t get my robe off! I thought, ‘Good thing I still remember how to wrestle because I can’t get this robe off’ [laughs]. It had been so long, but it felt absolutely incredible.
